Smokers Urged to Quit

Businesses Urged to Quit this No Smoking Day

Businesses are getting extra help to give up this No Smoking Day (14th March).

As part of Health Challenge Neath Port Talbot's bid to reduce days taken off sick, their latest campaign 'Be A Quitter Through Facebook and Twitter' aims to target workers who are struggling to stop smoking by publishing a free and confidential helpline on the popular social media sites.

Leader of the Council, Councillor A.H. Thomas

"The way we communicate today has changed dramatically' said Council Leader and local Health Champion Ali Thomas.

"We need to respond to these changes by offering local companies support to help their workforce give up smoking online."

AMBU Chairman Win Griffiths added, "Smoking is the greatest preventable cause of illness, disability and premature death in Wales. Stop Smoking Wales offers a free and confidential helpline, those that are ready to give up should contact 0800 085 2219".

Businesses who have signed up to Health Challenge Neath Port Talbot will be emailed information on the dangers of smoking and the benefits of giving up. Tweeters and Facebook users will be able to access the telephone number online.
