Harbour Way on Schedule
The first section of 'Harbour Way' has been officially opened to
the public this week on schedule.
The flagship project is on course for completion in Autumn
This part of the road, running parallel to the existing Dock
Road, is the first of three sections due to open over the next six
months. Work is also well underway on two new entrances for Tata
Contractors Costain, who are building the final link of the
Peripheral Distributor Road through Port Talbot, are forging ahead
with the £107 million project.
The road will link the completed Harbourside Road phase at Afan
Way to the A48 close to junction 38 of the M4. It is the largest
transport project in Wales and is funded by European grant and the

"Harbour Way will bring huge benefits to residents and
businesses in Port Talbot and heralds a new chapter in the history
of the town.
"It will shape the future of regeneration in Port Talbot,
linking key employment sites and opening up land for development
along the waterfront.
"It will also complement the Council's regeneration aspirations
at Aberavon Seafront and Port Talbot town centre."
John Skentelbery, Project Manager for Costain, said, "The
opening of the first section of the Harbour Way distributor road
marks the end of a very successful and productive year for the
project in 2011.
"With several other areas along the scheme due to open to the
public within the next twelve months, we are happy to confirm that
our workforce are on programme, with the road still on target for
an Autumn 2012 opening."
Residents are reminded that a purpose built visitor centre is
open every Wednesday from 1pm - 6pm where an exhibition showing the
route of the new road is on display as well as a DVD showing a
virtual 'fly through' of the completed project.
