Regeneration Work is Well Underway in Pontardawe Town
Centre
The second phase of the scheme has now started thanks to a
£325,000 funding package from the Welsh Government under the
Western Valleys Regeneration Area.

This involves enhancement work to the upper part of Herbert
Street and will see new paving, street furniture, signage and
lighting. The car park next to the public toilets will be upgraded
as well as traffic management improvements.
Work has started at the Cross towards Holly Street where they
will tie in with the first phase of works at Herbert Square.
A new home will also be found for the memorial fountain at the
Cross in consultation with the Civic Society.
The plans also include improvements to some key buildings.
The Pontardawe Arts Centre will be cleaned and painted as will
the One Stop Shop.
Repairs will be carried out to the Arcade link from Herbert
Street to the Paradise car park and the war memorial stone will be
cleaned.
Design work has begun on improvements to the areas around the
riverside and leisure centre together with access improvements to
the Swansea Canal at Trebanos and repairs to the lock gate
area.
The fire damaged public toilets have been repaired and are back
in public use.
Further work has also started on improving the Riverside Gardens
linking Parc Ynysyderw with the town centre.
Works will be completed during the Spring.
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said, "I'm delighted to see the
regeneration of Pontardawe moving forward thanks to our success in
securing funding.
"We are fulfilling our commitment to the people of Pontardawe
and all these improvements will shape the future of the town centre
to bring prosperity."
