Businesses Support Rugby League World Cup 2013
Dual code rugby legend, Gareth ‘Alfie’ Thomas was the guest speaker at a Business Lunch arranged to support the Wales v Cook Islands Rugby League World Cup match to be played at The Gnoll in Neath on Sunday, 10th November. The Lunch was part of the build up to the Rugby League World Cup Tournament, which kicks off with the eagerly anticipated Opening Ceremony at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on Saturday, 26th October.
Held at The Towers Hotel and arranged by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Business Development Team, the event’s MC was Tommo, Arquiva Radio Presenter of the Year and morning presenter on Nation Radio. The appreciative audience was treated to a hugely entertaining questions and answers session with ‘Alfie’, who described his sporting experiences in both Rugby codes.
All money raised on the day was in aid of the Rugby League World Cup’s social programme “A Day to Remember” and will be used to provide tickets for local school children who otherwise would not have been able to afford to attend the match.
The Wales v Cook Islands fixture promises to be a colourful affair with plenty of pre-match entertainment featuring dancers and singers as well as local primary schools and junior rugby league teams taking part in a Community Parade around the pitch.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Councillor Ali Thomas said, “It is fantastic to see local businesses and our communities supporting the game at The Gnoll. This is a great opportunity for Neath to host a major sporting event.”
