Council to let contract for new Afan Lido rebuild with
immediate start on site
A report to Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet next Wednesday
(9 April) will seek final approval to allow the Council’s developer
Corban Investments and their preferred contractor, Heron Brothers,
to start the immediate construction of the new leisure complex on
the Aberavon seafront.
If approved, construction will start at the end the month with
the overall budget for the project increased by £232,000.
Councillor Ali Thomas, Leader of the Council said:
“This has taken longer than we had hoped due to the difficult
site clearance issues following the 2009 fire; the requirement to
take the community with us in terms of the design of the new
facility through extensive consultation, the need for planning
permission and an essential tendering process for the work which
subsequently involved some lengthy commercial negotiations within a
very tight budget situation.
However, this report marks the final stage of that process and
we are now able to deliver the new facility with construction to
start before the end of the month. This will not compromise on
quality or the mix of facilities that will be available at the new
centre and additional resources have been allocated to the project
