Local contractors from Neath Port Talbot have been given the opportunity to work with Kier Construction on the first phase of the redevelopment of Neath Town Centre.

Site preparation works are already underway on the old Fairfield site.

The first phase will include a new 600 space shopper multi-storey car park providing a modern well lit family friendly environment.  The new car park will provide a first class facility for people using the town centre.

In addition, the first 24,000 sq.ft. retail unit will be constructed alongside the car park.

A Meet the Buyer Event was arranged by the Council’s Business Development Team to give local companies the chance to find out more about the project and talk directly to members of the Kier Construction commercial team.

As there are a large number of work packages available on this construction project, the first event was focused on works including brick/block work, including labour, plant and materials, steel fabrication and erection; roof and wall cladding, mechanical and electrical installations, joinery, flooring, dry lining, etc.

Further Meet the Buyer Events are planned for later this year to cover additional work packages.

Ian Davies, Project Manager for Kier Construction said:

“Kier are delighted to be working with Neath Port Talbot Council on this exciting development for Neath Town Centre.

“As the appointed contractor we are totally committed to maximising the benefit that the community and its businesses derive from this investment so we are keen to start engaging with local companies in readiness for the start of construction.

Neath Port Talbot Council Leader Ali Thomas OBE said the Council is committed to supporting local businesses in the County Borough.

“I am delighted that the Council are helping bring the skills of our local businesses to the attention of Kier Construction.

“Kier are committed to working with the Council to use local suppliers where possible and provide local people with employment opportunities.”
